Strassbourg with Kirsty!!!

The weekend before I flew home to celebrate Christmas with my family in CA, Kirsty and I decided to rendezvous in Strassbourg, France. As last minute as the trip was, Christian and Magali were able to join us for one day, which was great.

We met Kirsty at the train station and then somehow miraculously managed to find our hotel through the lovely one-way streets of Strassbourg. We stayed just outside of the old part of the city, but were definitely close enough to walk in within 10-15 minutes. We happened to be in Strassbourg during the first weekend of Advent, which was also the first weekend of the Christmas Markets, so we were pretty lucky to find as good of a hotel as we did. Way to go us!
We spent our first afternoon walking around the city, checking out the cathedral, looking at shops, drinking coffee, and eventually ended up a French supermarket. We had decided earlier that day to make our own dinner in our hotel room, which consisted of purchasing the finest French delicacies we could find. In short, dinner consisted of a variety of cheeses, French sausage, and duck prepared in ways I can't even pronounce. Darn French language!! I think I speak for all four of us, when I say that dinner was probably one of the best dinners we have ever had in a French budget hotel outside of Strassbourg during the first weekend of Advent. Am I right?? After dinner Magali and Christian drove back to Germany.
Awesome Astrological Clock in the CathedralRandom blue electric tree in a plazaOne of the main town squares with a giant Christmas Tree. The four of us at coffee. We were all at the same table I promise.Midway through our dinner extravaganza (T-A-S-T-Y!!) in our luxurious and spacious hotel room. As you can see our dinner table also serves as an office and our bed as dining room furniture. Classy.

The next day Kirsty and I did more sight seeing, and by the end of the day were self proclaimed Strassbourg tour guides. In addition to walking around almost everywhere, taking a boat cruise around the city, and eating everything in site, I think we managed to also visit every Gluewein or at least the top 5. Strassbourg is a very beautiful city, especially during Christmas, and reminded me a little bit of Amsterdam because of the canals. There were Christmas Markets and people everywhere, which definitely made for a fun environment. Kirsty and I had really wanted to take a horse drawn carriage ride through the city, but by the time we got to the departure location everything was already closed up. I guess it gives us one more reason to come back next year!

Cool lights that were all over the city.

On Monday I headed back to Frankfurt and Kirsty went on to Champagne. It's sad that we won't get to see each other for another 7 months at least, but this weekend was certainly one to remember.
