Mini Davis Reunion

After Thanksgiving I met up with Christian, Andi, and Sophie. Sophie was in town visiting Christian after finishing up her harvest in Portugal and doing a little traveling of her own. On Friday we went to a few wineries around Mainz, including the winery James D. works for. We tried countless good Rieslings, and Sophie and I managed to walk away with quite a delicious dessert wine. I can't wait to try it.
That night Andi treated us to a German specialty, Kaesespaetzle!! Kaesespaetzle is a southern German, particular Schwaebish, specialty, and I have found no one who makes it better than someone from the south, and Andi is no exception. The meal was absolutely delicious and everyone really enjoyed it. I also just wanted to mention that while we were at Christian's house, we tried his Trockenbeerenauslese (a dessert wine) and it was incredible. Since it was already so tasty at the end of November, I can't wait to taste it in a few months or even a few years. Remember to save me a bottle Christian!!! :)
On Saturday we drove down to Andi's neck of the woods, Baden-Wurtenburg. Andi lives a few kilometers north of Stuttgart, and he took us on a great tour of the area. Before he took us out though, we had dinner with the family, and I mean the entire family. It was awesome. Every Saturday afternoon Andi's mom makes the same dish and the family always eats together. It was great to be a part of that tradition.
After lunch Andi took us to a very famous part of the Neckar River, where the river does a complete U-Turn, its sweet. After that he showed us around some other towns and also too us to the Co-Op winery that he works for. The winery is beautiful and Andi was able to show up pretty much everything. During our time there I think we also managed to try almost every wine he had in a tank. So great. By the end we had had so much wine to drink that we lost Natalie. We looked for her everywhere, but she could not be found. She's always running away from us! (Ask me later about this for details, and as soon as I get the video from Sophie I'll post it. I promise after you watch that this story will make complete sense!)
That evening we eat dinner at Brewery in Downtown Stuttgart and then went ice skating. The Christmas market was not yet open, but they had set up a small Winterland complete with ice skating rink and lots of Gluewein. If you paired Gluewein (mulled wine) with ice skating you are definitely missing out. They go quite well together! On Sunday we headed back up to Christian's house and that afternoon Sophie and I watched him play soccer. Unfortunately his team lost, but Christian played quite well. For a largely unplanned and random weekend, it turned out to be one of the best yet. Davis Reunions are awesome!
