Jonas in Geisenheim

A few days after flying back to Germany after being in CA, Jonas too came back to Germany. His first stop was in Geisenheim to meet with Prof Schultz, but he ended up staying in town for about three days.

When he arrived on Monday I went out to dinner with him and his friends to our favorite restaurant in Geisenheim, you guessed it, Bootshaus - The one and only. It was great to finally meet many of the friend Jonas had been telling me about for the past 4 months. I hope that I will stay in contact with them once Jonas leaves, b/c they are some fun folks. After dinner we went back to the Kloster to get ready to go out to a student party. This was my first Geisenheim Party ever (about time, huh??) and the them was "Bauer sucht Frau" or "Farmer Seeks Wife". There is a reality TV show in Germany with the same title, however I have never seen an episode of it. The party was held in one of the student flats, and it was a blast. Sadly my camera battery died within the first 30 minutes, so you will have to check out Jonas' Blog to catch the photos.

The next day we visited a winery a few towns west of Geisenheim where Jonas' friend Tomoko works. She gave us a great tour and we got to taste some great wines in tank from the 2007 harvest. We tried a really great desert wine that was out of this world. I am definitely getting into the sweet dessert wines here, they are fantastic. That evening Jonas, Catherina, and I went to Wiesbaden to check out the Christmas Market. It was probably one of the best I visited if not the best for the single reason that they had the best "Kartoffel Puffer" in the world. Kartoffel Puffer are similar to potatoe pancakes, but 10x more delicious. I have never seen so much fat/lard used to cook before, which was pretty nasty, but the end result was a little piece of heaven. As usual we drank some Gluehwein and had a great evening.
Jonas and I came back to the Kloster where I watched Babel with some of the other roommates. It was a pretty good movie and luckily there wasn't too much dialogue, which made watchting it in Germany pretty easy. The next morning Jonas came over for breakfast and brought with him all of his favorite German breakfast treats from his favority backer and butcher. These treats included his favorite roll, wurst salat, mett (the raw pork dish I explained in a previous Blog), leberwurst, another wurst that I can't remember the name of, and fleischwurst. That was quite the breakfast, and I think I had enough meat in that one sitting to last me several days. Later that afternoon Jonas took the train down to his home town of Ottersweier, in Baden.
